I Belong to the “Jesus Party”
Respecting the law and loving our neighbors-a pastor’s personal reflections on U.S. immigration law
"Romans 13 teaches respect for governing authorities and civil order. I take that teaching seriously. But I do not read it as a declaration that everything a government does is right. Those who make laws and those who enforce them are accountable to God’s justice. Unjust laws and abusive enforcement should be corrected."I believe U.S. immigration laws should be obeyed. My position is that people who enter or remain in the country unlawfully should be deported after a fair legal review and due process. That may be uncomfortable for some to hear, but it is my honest view.
Let me make something clear first. As a pastor, I remain politically neutral and do not support any political party. I do not speak on behalf of any party; the views expressed here are my own.
If someone insists on asking which party I belong to, my answer is the “Jesus Party.” But since I am not the party leader, I ought to listen carefully to His Word before announcing my own platform.
