A new nonprofit launched a website today with an extensive database of Protestant leaders in the United States accused of abusing children or vulnerable adults. ProtestantAccountability.org, based in Orlando, Florida, is collecting publicly available information — including criminal indictments, lawsuits and news reports — to create a single, accessible archive of suspected wrongdoing.

Each page of the searchable website includes the name of an accused person, the places that person has worked, job titles and links to reports of allegations. Most pages also include a photo.

The list includes famous pastors, such as Robert Morris, Ted Haggard and Johnny Hunt. Lesser known names appear as well, including Paul Havsgaard and Ben Armstrong. Some people named on the site were accused of abuse in the 1980s and some, just this month.

The founders of ProtestantAccountability.org said in a press conference Wednesday that they believe the extensive public documentation can prevent abuse in the future.

“If we can protect one individual from harm, it will all have been worth it,” said Vice President Dominique Berringer on Zoom. “What we’ve hopefully done here is provided a comprehensive picture with this information, so that individuals can determine, ‘Is this a safe place for my family?’”
