I Talked to a White Nationalist: What do They Really Believe? How do we Answer?

“Hey, I'm wondering why you think it's good that only white people are coming into the United States?”I asked this question to a complete stranger. He had liked a comment on my recent Facebook post, a simple lament “Some days my heart hurts” over this headline:
For those who do not know, my church loves refugees. I am part of a denomination that has loved refugees and has many churches comprised entirely of refugees. I have done the weddings and funerals for refugees. I have baptized refugees. I have watched their children grow. I have mourned with them, rejoiced with them, and done all I can think of to help them get placed. For that, I have received death threats from white nationalists on Twitter and had pictures of my children emailed to me with threats of sexual violence.
Nevertheless, I love refugees? Why? Because I believe God calls us to love the refugee, and I believe that the witness of the church throughout history has been to have special favor and tender care for the refugee. But I will return to that later.
