Are white Evangelicals losing faith in Trump? New poll sees sliding support among key voting bloc

President Donald Trump’s approval rating among white Evangelicals has declined notably in recent months, according to a new national poll.A recent NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll found that 64% of white Evangelicals approve of the job Trump is doing as president, down from 72% in a January 2025 survey by the same pollsters.
The poll drew from a national survey conducted April 27–30 of 1,322 adults with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points.
The drop continues a longer-term trend. The same NPR/PBS News/Marist polls show Trump’s net approval rating among white Evangelicals falling from +50 in January 2025 to +30 in April 2026 — a 20-point decline.
A year ago, Pew Research Center polling in April 2025 showed Trump with a 72% approval rating among white Evangelical Protestants early in his second term. By early 2026, Pew reported it had slipped to 69%.
Despite the erosion, white Evangelicals remain far more supportive of Trump than the general public. The most recent NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll found that 59% of all respondents disapproved of Trump’s performance, while 37% approved and 4% were unsure.
