A wave of sadness and fear has spread through Pakistan’s Christian community after Pastor Kamran Salamat, 45, was shot and killed in a targeted attack on Dec. 5 outside his residence in Islam Colony, Sialkot Road, Gujranwala, Pakistan.

According to local sources, Pastor Salamat was preparing to take his daughter to college when an unknown attacker came from behind and started shooting at close range. Bullets hit his abdomen, left ear, and right wrist. His young daughter bravely tried to help him, striking the gunman with her father’s crutch, forcing him to flee. Although he was rushed to Civil Hospital Gujranwala for emergency treatment, he could not survive his injuries.

Police arrived shortly afterward, collected forensic material, and secured CCTV footage from nearby locations. A First Information Report was registered under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Pastor Kamran Slamat’s daughter was able to identify the armed attacker, described as a man with a long beard. The investigation is ongoing, and Christians across Pakistan are demanding justice for Pastor Kamran Slamat and his family.

According to his family, this conflict began after a dispute over church land in Rawalpindi. A few months ago, Salamat survived a shooting in Islamabad that left him with a badly injured leg. He later moved to Lahore, but still did not feel safe, and finally shifted to Gujranwala seeking refuge — yet the threats continued. Despite the threats, he continued his work on behalf of God’s kingdom.

Pastor Salamat’s funeral occurred on Dec. 6 at Saint Paul Presbyterian Church in Gujranwala, where thousands of Christians gathered to pay their last respects and honor his life and service.
