Transgenderism: A Biblical View

By Rev. Brian Schwertley - Posted at Sermon Audio:

Our topic: transgendered. Transgendered, what does the Bible say and we have multiple texts and I'll get to those in a minute. Very popular movement in our day. Currently in the United States, the United Stated federal government, many large corporations, Hollywood, the entertainment industry, as well as the mainstream media has been advocating a new philosophy regarding sexuality called the transgendered movement or the transgendered rights movement. The basic idea is that what one really is regarding one's gender or sex is not determined by one's physical gender or sex at birth. For example, one is born either a male or a female, male chromosomes, hormones, biology, sex organs, etc., or female, female genetics, hormones, physiology, sex organs, etc. But rather one's true sex or gender is something that one thinks or determines autonomously in his or her own mind. You could be some masculine man but if you think you're a woman, then according to this new philosophy you are a woman.

We hear things like, "I'm a woman trapped in a man's body." Or, "I've always identified as a man even though I was born with a female body." This thinking, by the way, is not based on any scientific data or studies or empirical studies or facts or careful studies or empirical observation, it is a cultural movement that has become very popular and trendy that is now backed by left-wing politicians, the media, and a kind of cultural coercion, you know, if you don't accept this view, if you don't speak in favor of it, if you point out what is obvious, then you become condemned and you are ordered to be silenced. If one does not adopt this new ethic of sexuality, this new arbitrary method of defining what is a man or a woman, then one is labeled as a bigot, full of hatred, evil, unloving, uncompassionate and so on and so on and so on. This is our situation.

Now given the fact that this new unscientific concept of sexuality is being taught to young children in public schools and in libraries and, of course, now it's all over the place, advertisements now you see frequent advertisements featuring transgendered homosexuals and lesbians, as well as the fact that Bible believing Christians will be denigrated and persecuted for not accepting or submitting to this new concept of sexual ethics, we would do well to examine what the inspired, infallible, inerrant, perfect word of God, the Bible, has to say about this new philosophy. Okay, this is purely a study of what the Bible has to say. Now we do have a section on logic and common sense and science toward the end, but, you know, this is the biblical view, what does the Bible say, what does scripture teach. If you want political stuff, there's tons of good political stuff on there on the internet.

In an update on Friday morning, Glendale police say 26-year-old Hans Schmidt, a husband and father of two, remains in critical condition. It happened on the northwest corner of 51st and Peoria avenues around 6 p.m. Friends say Hans Schmidt was standing with a megaphone on the street corner, preaching the gospel to people passing by, something he’d apparently done countless times before. Only this time, someone pulled out a gun and shot him. Friends and family can’t understand why. “Who knows why someone would want to take it out on a preacher like that because he’s speaking the gospel and good news to everybody. He’s out to help the commun

Thanksgiving and our Christian heritage

By Angela Wittman "Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people."   ( 1 Chronicles 16:8, KJV ) While preparing for the gathering of family and friends this Thanksgiving season, let’s not forget to also prepare our hearts in humble gratefulness to God for the blessings and grace which He has bestowed upon us as individuals and as a nation. Here is a bit of history about Thanksgiving which you may not have been taught in school as taken from the website “A Puritan’s Mind” by Dr. C. Matthew McMahon : The celebration we now popularly regard as the ‘First Thanksgiving’ was the Pilgrims' three-day feast celebrated in early November of 1621 (although a day of thanks in America was observed in Virginia at Cape Henry in 1607)... The Pilgrims left Plymouth, England, on September 6, 1620, sailing for a new world that offered the promise of both civil and religious liberty. The Pilgrims had earlier left England in 1608, as the Church of England
