Jesus Is Not Your American Patriot

By Ameen Hudson - Posted at The Gospel Coalition:

No earthly nation, including America, has a monopoly on God’s favor and blessing. All of God’s promises and blessings are directed toward the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multinational body of Christ.
I live in the South, where “God and country” is a popular sentiment. Despite the fact that America was reputedly built on Judeo-Christian values, this seemingly honorable motto is problematic. It fails to promote an ideology that seeks God’s glory and multinational kingdom while encouraging American citizens to submit to his will.

Instead, it turns Jesus into a patriot.

Such a mentality tends to confuse God’s interests with those of a political party. It makes the United States the center of God’s affections, above every other nation. Critiquing the sentiment is seen not only as an assault on the principles of American democracy, but on God himself.

It conflates religion and politics, yielding a false god made in America’s image.

  1. Amen!! Thank you for sharing this absolutely wonderful article that says the truth which is always and will be forever, in Jesus Christ... thank you my dear sister Angela Wittman, for always giving King Jesus the glory... I have been saying this since the Holy Spirit revealed Gods' truth in me... I know I am hated at times and called a betrayer when I don't stand for the flag but I only stand in allegiance to our God and our Savior, the Messiah, Emmanuel... I love all people and I care about what people have been through but just because someone went to war does not mean I should worship him... I might shake his hand and thank him, if I know he is a believer... I have fought many physical and spiritual battles for my children, for my mother who was dying of aids, for myself, and have given to the poor, whether through money or volunteering, and have helped children, the elderly, etc... and so I do not ask for anyone to stand in allegiece of me... if a man is truly in Christ, he would never ask people to stand for him or to bend for him or to acknowledge a flag he might make as a symbol of his works... I don't think bad of anyone who does stand for the flag because they are still honoring God when they say 'one nation under God'... I love to see people being respectful to others who have done so much that helped build this nation and i love to see people together for a greater good but as long as it is glorifying Jesus... but if there was no 'one nation under God' then I would see that no different than the Grammy Awards, where people are just exalting others in the name of man... for to many go to war or join the military, not to save the country but to feed their families, or to kill out of pleasure or to do what seems noble or for many other reasons and even if they do what they do to help this country, I do not believe in the wars that have been made up to cause death and destruction, fear and compromise, which is the evil works of many, who are in leadership and have control over what the military is to do or not to do... I pray that our military stays home to help the needy and to keep things harmoneus and to defend us from terror but in this fallen world, none of this will ever be perfect, until Jesus renews all the world and heaven, ridding war, starvation, wickedness, and all other evil, condemning satan and his followers, in the pits of hell forever... I have been to jail for my children and I have almost been to jail to try to stop murder of other children at planned parenthood but the difference is that i am doing what everyone should feel the need to do, whether they do or not and I know i am nobody, but a saved sinner, unworthy but unconditionally loved by our Father, Jesus Christ...

Facebook - The Gig Is Up

This issue is at the center of the Cambridge Analytica data scandal that the social media company is facing right now. The political research firm was able to access data on more than 50 million Facebook users through a third-party personality quiz application, without the knowledge or consent of users. The quiz maker wasn't supposed to pass the information along, but Facebook at the time had no technical measures in place to prevent it. Cambridge Analytica later used this and other information to create detailed psychological profiles of Facebook users and to micro-target political ads at some of them, ... -  Excerpt from Here's how to see which apps have access to your Facebook data — and cut them off - CNBC

Infrequent cannabis use strongly linked to psychosis

Posted at The Christian Institute:

Smoking cannabis as little as five times as a teenager can lead to psychosis in later life, new research has shown.

The study from Finland, published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, adds to the evidence that indicates the drug can lead to poor mental health, and in some cases, suicide.

The findings come amid reports that up to 94 per cent of cannabis in parts of England is highly potent ‘skunk’.

Bill Hybels Resigns from Willow Creek

By Bob Smietana - Posted at Christianity Today:
Former leaders have accused the church of failing to adequately address several allegations against Hybels, including inappropriate comments, private meetings with female staffers in his hotel room and at his home, intrusive hugs, and, in one case, an unwanted kiss.Megachurch pastor “accelerates” October retirement weeks after former colleagues went public with misconduct allegations.

Bill Hybels has stepped down as senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, the Chicago-area megachurch he founded over 40 years ago, citing the controversy over recent allegations against him.

Many in the wider Christian community have been confused by those allegations, he said, and the controversy has distracted his church’s leaders from their mission and has hurt the church’s ministries. “They can’t flourish to their fullest potential when the valuable time of our leaders is divided.”

Hybels, who previously planned to retire in October, revealed the…
