Will Illinois Rep. file legislation to regulate online fantasy sports?

DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy sports companies have registered lobbyists from New York and Washington, D. C. to lobby the Illinois General Assembly, Governor, and Attorney General, the Pantagraph reported.

The Illinois Gaming Board said last week it is seeking a legal opinion from Attorney General Lisa Madigan on whether the games are allowed under Illinois law.

While it remained unclear how Rep. Zalewski's proposal would make sports betting legal, there is support among top legislative leader for legalizing some form of online gambling in Illinois. Read more

The developer of a proposed casino mall in Hometown has filed a lawsuit against the Illinois Gaming Board, claiming it exceeded its legal authority and violated the Illinois Open Meetings Act in denying video gambling licenses to businesses in the strip mall. Read more

Lottery sales increase with loss of jobs, poverty

A study of the lottery by Cornell University, conducted at the request of the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, shows that across the state, lottery ticket sales go up when people lose their jobs. For every 1 percent increase in joblessness in a given zip code, sales of scratch and draw tickets jump 10 percent.

Mayor breaks tie vote to legalize video gambling in St. Charles

Public comment was not allowed until after the vote, which "was unanimously against video gambling"! Aldermen, who voted to overturn the ban. amended the ordinance first. "As long as there is no state budget, video gambling will remain illegal in St. Charles. Any state budget that alters the percentage of video gambling owed to municipalities would also prevent the machines from going live in the city," reported the Daily Herald.
